Is it important that the UPA name a National Champion? Why?

Ok, I'll bite...

I think it's very important. I think that the concept has a lot to offer from a marketing perspective, and I’m a Nationalistic guy. It seems to me that it would best fit into the existing structure if the National Championships were 2 weeks before sectionals.

For the record, I really like JP's comment about a golf-like "US Open," but I would hate to see this hinder current efforts to offer services to USA players.

(sidebar – The efforts here by the UPA are greatly appreciated, and are simply outstanding. If you don’t mind I would like to ask that the blogmaster consider adding one last category where posters would have the opportunity to list the issues in terms of overall priority. Also, it would be fabulous if budget information were available as well. The opportunity to help shape the future of the sport is truly a privilege. – Thank you!)

It doesn't seem important to me - save for when the UPA is trying to nominate a US Representative for the Wolrd Championships. That is what, every 4 years? Perhaps on those years non-US teams could be excluded from the UPA Championships, so we don't have a repeat of the scenario when the loser of the finals becomes the de facto US representative.

This topic doesn't strike me as a great use of organizational energy for the UPA.

Will there be a forum for discussing competitive devisions in Ultimate?
